May 19 - BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Bethany College track and field teams had a light day on the opening day of the ECAC Track & Field Championships, which are being held at Moravian College Thursday and Friday.

The only male Bison competitor to be in action Thursday was freshman Ben Gregg (Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth). Already provisionally qualified for NCAA Championships, Gregg was unable to better his original qualifying throw. On Thursday, he finished 16th overall with a best measurement of 53.45 meters.

Going into ECAC Championships, Gregg was ranked 22nd in the nation with a top throw of 59.54 meters and he will find out Monday if he has earned a spot at NCAA Championships, which will be May 26-28 at Ohio Wesleyan University.

For the women, senior Desiree Finley (Nanticoke, Pa./Hanover Area) began a busy weekend, as she competed in her first of three events. She ran in the 100 hurdles preliminaries and posted a time of 16.62 seconds, which did not advance her into Friday’s final. Finley will still be active on the second day of the championships, as she runs in the 400 hurdles and 4x100 relay.

In addition to Finley, the men’s 4x100 relay will also run Friday, as will freshman Arkangelo James (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) in the 800. In the field events, freshman Greg Williams (Washington, D.C./Shippensburg, Pa.), who will run on the 4x100 relay, will also compete in the long jump.
