Bison Show Skills At Bobcat Open Classic

March 29 – BUCKHANNON, W. Va. – The Bison Track & Field program received solid individual efforts at the Bobcat Open Classic hosted by West Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday afternoon.

On the men’s side, the notable performers included Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon), Kyle Minger (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local) and Andre Butler (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville). Moore had arguably the best day of any Bison, as he grabbed first place in the triple jump (45’ 10 ½”) and second place in the long jump (6.77 meters). In addition, he also qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships in both events.

Minger also had a fantastic outing, as he finished second in the 400 meter dash (49.56) and was a member of the second place 4x400 relay team (3:29.02). His performance in the 400 also qualified him for the ECAC Championships.

Butler, who ran a leg on the 4x400 relay team, also was a member of the second-place 4x100 team and added a fifth-place finish in the high jump (5’ 08”).

Others that scored points for the Bison were Shawn Burns (Weirton, W.Va./Weir), Wesley Scott (Kingwood, W.Va./Preston), Ryan Donnelly (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) and Kody Niedzwiecki (Ohioville, Pa./Western Beaver).

Burns ran a leg on the 4x400 relay team and finished fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.37.

Scott grabbed a fifth-place finish in the 800 meter run (2:05.19) and was also a member of the 4x400 relay squad.

Donnelly added a fourth-place finish in the 5,000 meter (16:32.03), while Niedzwiecki notched a fifth-place spot in the javelin with a throw of 132’ 07”.

The 4x100 team (43.62) consisting of Burns, Georgio Cineus (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern), Butler and Moore also qualified for the ECAC Championships with their performance.

On the women’s side the standouts were Maria Jackson-McBride (Spotsylvania, Va./West Potomac) and Paige Prato (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes). Jackson-McBride had an outstanding afternoon, winning the 400 meter dash (1:00.50) and was also a member of the second place 4x400 meter relay team (4:29.94).

Prato made her presence known as she notched a fourth-place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.80. She also ran a leg on the 4x400 relay squad.

Others that performed well on the women’s side included Kiera Goolsby (Washington, Pa./Washington), Jess Olsen (Moon, Pa./Moon) and Rhianna Petrone (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan). Goolsby grabbed a sixth-place spot in the 200 (27.08) and was a member of the 4x400 relay team. Olsen added a fifth-place finish in the 800 (2:41.26), while Petrone logged sixth place in the 10,000 meter run with a time of 44:52.87.

The Bison will be back in action on Saturday, April 5, when they host the Bethany Invitational. Festivities are scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.
