May 2 – GROVE, CITY, Pa. – The Bethany College track and field teams looked to fine tune, as they competed at the Grove City College Mini Invitational hosted by Grove City on Friday afternoon.
Perhaps the biggest winner was the 4x100 meter relay team consisting of Shawn Burns (Weirton, W.Va./Weir), Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon), Anthony Thompson (Colquitt, Ga./Miller County) and Georgio Cineus (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern), who set the new Bison school record, posting a time of 42.63. The previous record of 42.74, was set in 1994.
On the men’s side, the big individual winners were Moore and Kyle Minger (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local). Moore was able to place first in the triple jump with a leap of 13.96 meters. He also ran a leg on the second place 4x100 meter relay team (42.63).
Minger showed off his speed in the 400 meter dash, as he finished second with a time of 50.13. He also was a member of the winning 4x400 meter relay squad that posted a time of 3:24.80.
Others that did well were Burns, Andre Butler (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville), Ryan Donnelly (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) and Nick Sainvilier (Washington, D.C./The Heights School).
Burns finished second in the 100 with a time of 11.35, while Butler was fifth in the 400 (51.75). Donnelly grabbed a fifth-place finish in the 5,000 meter run (16:11.95) and Sainvilier notched a fourth-place spot in the triple jump (12.49 meters).
The women were led by Maria Jackson-McBride (Spotsylvania, Va./West Potomac), Paige Prato (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) Lauren Rao (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) and Heather Grinkley (Woodbridge, Va./C.D. Hylton). Jackson-McBride made her presence known, running a leg on the winning 4x100 team (49.39), while also placing fifth in the 200 (27.10) and third in the 400 (1:01.10).
Prato finished third in the 200 with a time of 26.24 and was also on the 4x100 meter relay squad. Rao added a third-place finish in the high jump (1.43 meters), while Grinkley finished fourth in the 100 (13.56) and was a member of the 4x100 team.
The squads will hit the track next on Friday, May 9, as they travel to Allegheny College for the Gator Invitational. Action is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m.
