May 15 – TROY, N.Y. – Three Bison athletes kicked things off for Bethany in the first day of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Championships hosted by the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy, N.Y.
On the women’s side, sophomore Kiera Goolsby (Washington, Pa./Washington) and senior Paige Prato (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) each competed in the 100 meter prelims. Goolsby finished with a time of 12.71 while Prato came in with a finish of 13.04.
On the men’s side, Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon) competed in the first of his three events of the two-day championships, finishing 17th in the triple jump with a leap of 44’ 9 ¼”.
In day two, the Bison will compete in five more events, which will include both the men’s and women’s 4x100 meter relays. The women’s team, consisting of Goolsby, Prato, Maria Jackson-McBride (Spotsylvania, Va./West Potomac) and Heather Grinkley (Woodbridge, Va./C.D. Hylton) qualified for the ECAC Championships with a time of 49.36. The men’s relay, which is comprised of Moore, Anthony Thompson (Colquitt, Ga./Miller County), Shawn Burns (Weirton, W. Va./Weir) and Georgio Cineus (Suffern, N.Y./Suffern), qualified 11th for tomorrow’s final, tying a school record last week by posting a time of 42.63.
Individuals competing tomorrow include Prato in the 200 meter finals, Moore in the long jump, Jackson-McBride in the women’s 400 meter dash, and Kyle Minger (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local) in the men’s 400 meter. More comes in with the third-best qualifying distance in the long jump (23’ 5”), while Minger enters with the sixth-fastest time in the 400 (48.82).
