May 16 - BETHANY, W.Va. – For the ninth consecutive year, the Bethany College men’s and women’s track and field teams will be well represented at the ECAC Outdoor Championships, which will be Thursday and Friday at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institue (RPI) in Troy, N.Y.

As part of the more than 160 men’s and women’s programs that will be competing at the 2012 ECAC Championships, the Bison women had two sprinters and one relay qualify for the meet and the BC men have one middle distance runner, one thrower and one relay who have earned the right to participate.

Leading the way for the Bethany women is sophomore Paige Prato (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes), who qualified in three events. The PAC champion in the 100 with a new BC school record time of 12.76 seconds, she will also run in the 200 after posting a season-best time of 26.36 and the 4x100 relay. This is the second straight season she has earned the chance to compete at ECACs after qualifying in the 4x100 relay last year.

The ECAC veteran of this group is senior Kaitlyn Black (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley), who is running in her third championship meet. In addition to running on the 4x100 relay this year, she qualified in the 400 with a best time this year of 58.74 seconds. She earned Honorable Mention All-PAC in the 400 at the PAC Championship meet and also owns a share of the 4x400 school record that was set when she ran at ECACs in 2009.

Completing the Bison 4x100 relay is sophomore Hayley Acree (Middlebourne, W.Va./Tyler Consolidated), who also ran on the relay at last year’s ECAC meet, and freshman Megan Butler (Brooklyn, N.Y./Homeschool), who will be making her ECAC debut. The relay will be trying to better its top time from this season of 50.63, which they posted at the PAC South Quad Meet April 18.

The two individuals on the men’s side are also returning for their second appearances at ECACs. Sophomore Arkangelo James (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin) will be running the 800 after he recorded a top time of 1:53.59 during the year and settled for Honorable Mention honors at PAC Championships. Last year at this meet, James placed fifth overall by setting a new Bethany record with a time of 1:52.54.

Sophomore Ben Gregg (Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth) is also returning to compete in the javelin after he finished 16th overall at last year’s meet. This season, he recovered from an early-season injury to take Second Team All-PAC at the conference meet and then finished sixth in a solid field at the Allegheny Invitational. His top effort came at the opening meet of the season when he took first place at the Wheeling Jesuit Invitational with a throw of 56.34 meters.

The men’s 4x100 relay returns a pair of runners from last year’s foursome that placed seventh at ECAC Championships. Sophomore Lamine Balde (Guinea/William L. Sayre) and junior Raymear Pinchom (Willingboro, N.J.) both ran on that relay and are joined this year by freshmen Derrick Tolliver (Bellaire, Ohio) and Anthony Thompson (Colquitt, Ga./Miller County). Their top performance this year came at the PAC South Quad Meet after clocking in with a time of 43.21 seconds.
