Bison Track Competes at 11th-Annual Gator Invite

May 13 – MEADVILLE, Pa. – Led by a record-setting performance from senior Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon), the Bethany College track & field teams competed at the 11th-annual Gator Invite hosted by Allegheny College on Friday.

Moore competed in his usual events, finishing second in the triple jump and third in the long jump. The senior finished second out of nine competitors in the triple, posting a leap of 47-04.25 in his final attempt of the afternoon. The mark shattered his own school record by four inches, breaking his 2015 standard of 47-0.25. It also currently ties him for 14thin all of Division III.

Along with his mark in the triple jump, Moore also finished third in a field of 11 competitors in the long jump. His best jump was once again his final of the event, posting a distance of 22-03.00.

On the track, the top finisher for the day was junior Andre Butler (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville), who earned a sixth-place mark in the 100-meter dash. After posting an 11.04 in the prelims of the event, he shaved .01 seconds off his time in the final, posting a mark of 11.03.

In the 400-meter run, Kyle Minger (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local) tallied a sixth-place mark (49.58), while Khallid Young (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) and Austin Davis (Honolulu, Hawaii/Moanalua) finished 11th and 14th, respectively. Young posted a time of 51.38, while Davis finished in 52.33.

Butler, like Moore, competed in two events as the junior earned an 11th-place finish in the 200-meter dash (22.47). Marshall Murray (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) added an 11th-place mark in the 800-meter run (1:59.86) while Ryan Donnelly (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) finished 12th in the 5,000 (16:01.06).

In field events, freshman Patience Frazier (Washington, Pa./Washington) posted an eighth-place mark in the women’s javelin (109-11), while Matt Dunn finished 12th in the discus (130-07).

The Green & White will be back in action on Wednesday and Thursday, May 18-19, as the Bison will send individuals to the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Outdoor Championships, hosted by Westfield State University.
