March 28 - WHEELING, W.Va. – The Bethany track and field teams competed in their first outdoor meet as a full team Saturday when the women’s team finished seventh out of 14 teams and the men were 10th out of 13 teams.

The women’s team registered several top performances. The lone first place was earned by freshman Connie Woods (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Williams), who won the triple jump with an effort of 10.71 meters. She also took fourth place in the long jump (4.80) and sixth in the 200 (27.75).

Junior Jodi Bodo (Steubenville, Ohio/Steubenville Catholic Central) turned in a good day on the track, finishing third in the 200 and 400. After qualifying for the ECAC Outdoor Championships last week in the 400, she bettered her time Saturday, crossing in 59.43 seconds, behind only a competitor from West Virginia University and Division II Wheeling Jesuit. Her time of 27.12 in the 200 was third out of 25 runners and the top mark by a Division III sprinter.

Other individual points on the track for the came from sophomore Stacy Goode (Pleasant Plain, Ohio/Little Miami), who was sixth in the 800 (2:26.68) and freshman Kaitlyn Black (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley), who finished eighth in the 400 (1:02.89).

Both relays also scored as well, as the 400 Relay team of Bodo, senior Emily Bota (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands), Black and senior Rachael Katsur (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills) earned sixth (52.43) and the 1,600 team of Black, Kelly Goode, Stacy Goode and Bodo posted a time of 4:19.65 for fourth place.

In the field events, junior Jessica Sarro (Deer Park, N.Y./West Hempstead) and Bota were seventh (4.50) and eighth (4.44), respectively, in the long jump and freshman Cassondra Allen (Washington, Pa./Canon-McMillan) took seventh in the triple jump (9.03) and eighth in the high jump (1.42).

The majority of Bethany’s points on the men’s side came in the field events. Junior Grant Walters (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell) scored in two events, earning fifth in the triple jump (11.47) and eighth in the long jump (5.98). In the throws, freshman Seth Myers (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) was sixth in the discus (38.01) and junior James Malone (Wellsville, Ohio) took eighth in the shot put (12.24).

On the track, the 400 relay team of senior Alex Bota (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands), freshman Josh Ringer (Prosperity, Pa./McGuffey), Walters and sophomore Daniel Farray (Queens, N.Y./Msgr. McClancy) placed seventh, which was the same place earned by the 1,600 relay team of sophomore Brandon Applegate (Colorado Springs, Col./Mitchell), freshman Mathias Mueller (Heidelberg, Germany), freshman Joe Douglas (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) and junior John Falconi (Sharon, Pa./Farrell).

Both Bethany teams will be competing again next Saturday at the Washington & Jefferson Invitational.
