April 15 - BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Bethany women’s track and field team brought home first place, while the men finished second at the PAC South Quad Meet held at Geneva Wednesday afternoon.

The Bison women totaled 182 points to finish in front of Waynesburg (169), Geneva (107) and Washington & Jefferson (55). Bethany’s men scored 139 points to finish behind W&J (163) and in front of Waynesburg (93) and Geneva (80).

Junior Jodi Bodo (Steubenville, Ohio/Steubenville Catholic Central) recorded two of the Bison’s five first places at the meet. She was the first to cross in the 100 (13.17) and 800 (2:22.71) and also took second in the long jump with an effort of 15-9.75.

Bethany’s sprinters had a very good day overall. Senior Emily Bota (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) won the 200 with a time of 28.4, while junior Desiree Finley (Nanticoke, Pa./Hanover Area) won the 100 hurdles in 17.06. Finley’s day also included a first place showing in the 4x400 relay (4:19.64) with sophomores Stacy and Kelly Goode (Pleasant Plain, Ohio/Little Miami) and junior Maggie McCort (Fort Ashby, W.Va./Frankfort) and a pair of seconds in the 400 hurdles (1:11.21) and pole vault (8-11.75).

The Bison gathered three other runner-up finishes, which included senior Rachael Katsur (Pittsburgh, Pa./Woodland Hills)  in the 200 (28.5), freshman Connie Woods (Alexandria, Va./T.C. Willaims) in the triple jump (34-3), and sophomore Tara Harris (Zanesville, Ohio) in the shot put (34-6.5).

While BC’s men did not win an event, they recorded numerous second places for the bulk of their points. Sophomore Danny Farray (Queens, N.Y./Msgr. McClancy) had three, as he was runner-up in the 200 (23.4) and the long jump (18-6.25). He also ran the anchor leg for the 4x100 relay that took second (45.37) along with senior Alex Bota (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands), freshman Josh Ringer (Prosperity, Pa./McGuffey) and junior Grant Walters (Lower Burrell, Pa./Burrell).

Walters nabbed second in one other event on the track, the 400 hurdles, and sophomore Brandon Applegate (Colorado Springs, Col./Mitchell) earned the other in the 800 (2:07.47).

Two Bison took second in their throwing events. Freshman Seth Myers (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Park) threw 132-2.5 in the discus for his spot and sophomore Patrick Rupert (Oakdale, Pa./West Allegheny) tossed the javelin 136-5.75 to grab second.

Bethany will compete in their final tune-up event before PAC Championships on Saturday when they go to the Indiana (Pa.) University Invitational.
