May 22 - OSHKOSH, Wisc. – Bethany College sophomore Matt Cruse (Naples, Fla./Barron Collier) competed in his first of two events Thursday at the 2008 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, running in the 400 hurdles at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh.
Running in the third and final heat, Cruse finished fifth out of six runners with a time of 54.32 seconds. Grabbing the ninth and final spot in the championship heat was Kyle Hansen of California Lutheran, who took third in Cruse’s heat in 53.62. Fourth place in the heat and 10th overall was Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Keith Martineau with a time of 54.06.
The top time in Thursday’s 400 hurdle prelim was turned in by Russell Dill from Tri-State University, as he finished in 51.83.
Cruse will be in action again Friday at 5 p.m. when he runs in the preliminaries of the 110 hurdles. The Bison sophomore has the seventh fastest time this season in the event and will run in the first heat. Also running in Cruse’s heat is Moravian’s Beresford Brown, who has the top time this year in the 110s (14.27).
