Feb. 11 - DANBURRY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference has announced that Bethany College track & field freshman Whitney Martin (Wintersville, Ohio/Indian Creek) has been named the ECAC Division III South Regional Rookie of the Week.
The award marks the second time in the young season that Martin has been honored by the ECAC as she was named ECAC Division III South Region Track Athlete of the Week just two weeks ago.
Martin captured her second win in the 60 meter dash in as many tries, posting a mark of 7.88. She has raced in just two events so far this season, and has broken the Bison record in both races. Her time at the Jim Wuske Invite was .02 seconds faster than her previous mark of 7.90.
With the performance, Martin currently ranks 23rd in all of Division III, but has the second-highest mark by a freshman in the country this season. She has also twice posted qualifying times for the ECAC Championships.
Martin and the Bison will be back in action on Saturday, February 21 when they travel to Gambier, Ohio to compete in the Kenyon College Classic. The meet is scheduled for a 12 p.m. start.
