Jan. 28 - DANBURRY, Conn. - Adding to her list of first-year accolades, freshman female indoor track athlete, Whitney Martin (Wintersville, Ohio/Indian Creek), has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III South Regional Rookie of the Week, announced the ECAC on Wednesday.
The award comes on the tails of her Presidents' Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week award which she earned earlier this week.
Martin was terrific in her first-ever collegiate track event, capturing a pair of top-two finishes at Saturday's Denison Lid-Lifter. She ran to a first-place finish in the 60-meter dash, breaking the school record with her winning time of 7.90 seconds. She also became the first female in Bison history to run the 60 in under eight seconds.
Along with her first place finish in the 60-meter, Martin also scored a second-place mark in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.50, just .05 seconds off of the existing school record.
Martin and the Bison will be back in action on Saturday, February 7 when they travel to Alliance, Ohio to compete in the Jim Wuske Invitational hosted by Mount Union. The meet is scheduled for 10 a.m.
