April 11 – NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Bethany College track & field teams competed at the Westminster College Invitational on Saturday. The Bison women posted a ninth-place finish out of 22 teams, while the men captured eighth out of the 20 teams that were represented.
On the women’s side, the Green & White posted 34 points on the day to finish ninth of 22 teams. The big winner on the day was junior Maria Jackson-McBride (Spotsylvania, Va./) who had a hand in 22 of the teams 34 points. Jackson-McBride captured a victory in the 400-meter dash out of 34 competitors, notching a time of 58.94. She also ran the second leg on the 4x100-meter relay which grabbed a first place finish (50.62). Along with those accomplishments, Jackson-McBride posted a seventh-place finish in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line with a time of 26.49.
The other individual winner for the Bison was sophomore Brooke Bosworth (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville), who captured a victory in the 3000 steeplechase, posting a time of 12:31.22, improving on her best time of this season by 19.18 seconds. It also marked the first individual victory of the season for Bosworth.
Other top-ten finishes for the Bison came in the 100-meter dash. Junior Kiera Goolsby (Washington, Pa./Washington) picked up two points with a seventh-place mark in the race (12.96), while Lauren Rao (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) came in tenth in the 43-competitor field with a time of 13.04.
For the men, the Bison tallied 37 points which was good for 10th place out of 24 teams. Junior Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon) led the team with first-place finishes in both the long jump and triple jump events. Moore posted a distance of 22’ 1 ½” in the long jump and grabbed a distance of 45’ 8 1/2 ‘ in the triple jump, marking the second meet in a row that Moore has swept both events.
Bethany also picked up five more points in field events, as sophomore Andre Butler (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) totaled a fourth-place finish in the high jump, completing the event with a height of 6’ ¾”.
In the track events, the Green & White was paced by Kyle Minger (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local) who captured two top-five finishes en route to earning 12 points for the Bison. Minger first posted a time of 22.44 in the 200-meter dash, placing fifth in the event. He then followed that with a second-place finish in the 400 meter, posting a time of 49.23 to earn eight points for Bethany.
The Bison track and field teams will be back in action on Wednesday, April 15 when they host the PAC South Quad Invitational at Bison Stadium.
