Men's Track Tabbed as Favorites/Women Third in PAC Indoor Track Preseason Coaches' Poll

December 3 – GREENVILLE, Pa. – Looking to defend their 2014-15 Presidents’ Athletic Conference Indoor Championship, the Bison men’s track team has been selected as the favorites in the 2015-16 Indoor Preseason Coaches’ Poll, announced the PAC on Thursday. The Bison women’s poll was also released, in which the Bethany women were selected third.

For the men and 12th-year head coach Andy Upton, the Bison received six of the possible nine first-place votes while collecting 92 of a possible 100 points. The Green & White were then followed by Westminster College (79 points) and Grove City College (76 points) who each earned two first-place votes and finished second and third, respectively.

Geneva College was selected fourth in the preseason coaches’ poll, collecting 68 points. Last year’s indoor runner up, Saint Vincent College, rounded out the top five with a fifth-place selection and 62 points. The bottom half of the preseason poll saw Waynesburg University selected sixth (52 points) with Washington & Jefferson (47 points) and Thomas More (40 points) picked seventh and eighth. Thiel College (9th- 24 points) and Chatham University (10th- 10 points) rounded out the poll.

Along with the poll, an “athletes to watch” list was announced, in which four Bison were recognized. The Bison included were juniors Andre Butler (Poolesville, Md./Pollesville) and Ryan Donnelly (Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills) and seniors Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon) and Kyle Minger (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local).

On the women’s side, the Bison were selected third, collecting 67 points. The pre-season favorite was Grove City, who collected nine of the first place votes and 99 of a possible 100 points. Westminster collected the other first place vote and finished in second with 89 points.

After the Bison in third, Thomas More and Waynesburg finished fourth and fifth, collecting 65 and 64 points, respectively. The rest of the poll was made up of Geneva (sixth – 62 points), W&J (seventh – 36 points), Thiel (eighth – 35 points), Saint Vincent (ninth – 21 points) and Chatham (10th – 12 points).

Athletes to watch on the women’s side included sophomore Whitney Martin (Wintersville, Ohio/Indian Creek), junior Lauren Rao (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) and seniors Maria Jackson-McBride (Spotsylvania, Va./West Potomac) and Heather Grinkley (Woodbridge, Va./C.D. Hylton).
