Men's Track Tabbed as Favorites/Women Third in PAC Preseason Coaches' Polls

March 13 – GREENVILLE, Pa. – On the heels of their first Presidents’ Athletic Conference Indoor Championship, the Bison men’s track team has been selected as the preseason favorites for the 2015 PAC outdoor season, announced the PAC on Friday. The Bison women’s poll was also released, in which the Bethany women were picked third.

For the men and 11th-year head coach Andy Upton, the Bison received four of the possible nine first-place votes while collecting 70 total points. In a tight race, the Green & White finished one point ahead of second-place Westminster who tallied two first-place votes and 69 total points.

Defending PAC outdoor champion Grove City was selected third in the preseason coaches poll, garnering two first-place votes and 62 points. The rest of the men’s poll was filled by Saint Vincent in fourth (48 points), Waynesburg in fifth (47 points and one first-place vote) and Geneva in sixth (46 points). Thiel and Thomas More tied for seventh with 27 points, while Washington & Jefferson was picked ninth.

Along with the poll, an “athletes to watch” list was announced, which included four Bison. The list for the Bison included freshman Shae Long (Steubenville, Ohio/East Liverpool), juniors Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon) and Kyle Minger (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local) and senior Austin Williams (Euclid, Ohio/Euclid).

On the women’s side, the Bison were selected third, collecting 70 points. The pre-season favorite was Grove City, who collected eight first-place votes, finishing with 97 points. Westminster placed second with two first-place votes and 92 points.

After the Bison in third, Thomas More and Waynesburg tied for fourth, collecting 62 points, each. The rest of the poll was made up of Geneva (sixth – 59 points), Thiel (seventh – 37 points), W&J (eighth – 29 points), Saint Vincent (ninth – 27 points) and Chatham (10th – 15 points).

Athletes to watch on the women’s side included freshman Whitney Martin (Wintersville, Ohio/Indian Creek), sophomore Lauren Rao (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) and juniors Maria Jackson-McBride (Spotsylvania, Va./West Potomac) and Kiera Goolsby (Washington, Pa./Washington).
