Moore Highlights Bison Track & Field at Otterbein Invitational

Jan. 17 – WESTERVILLE, Ohio – Led by four top-three finishes including a triple jump victory by junior Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon), the Bethany College indoor track & field teams competed at the Otterbein Invitational, hosted by Otterbein University on Saturday.

The Bison men finished eighth of 13 teams, totaling 37 points on the day. Moore led the way for the Green & White, capturing two, top-two finishes on the day. Moore posted a victory in the triple jump with a distance of 47’0.75” and followed that with a second-place performance in the long jump (22’9”). He also showed his versatility, placing 16th in a field of 41 competitors in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.01.

Freshman Shae Long (Steubenville, Ohio/East Liverpool) also posted a top-three finish, placing second in the high jump in a field of 18 competitors. Long finished the event with a leap 6’2”, helping the Bison collect eight points in the field event.

Sophomore Kyle Minger (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local) scored two, top-finishes on the day, scoring points in both the 400 meter and 200 meter runs. Minger placed fourth in the 400 with a time of 51.38. He then followed that performance with a fifth-place mark in the 200 meter dash, finishing with a mark of 23.12.

Other notable performances for the men included freshman Donald Bierhals (Cabot, Pa./Knoch) eighth place (2:10.25) and Austin Davis’ (Honolulu, Hawaii/Moanalua) 10th-place (2:11.9) performances in the 800 meter run, as well as Andre Butler’s (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) 12-place mark in the 400 (53.74).

On the women’s side, Maria Jackson-McBride (Spotsylvania, Va./West Potomac)was the top finisher, placing third in the 400 with a time of 1:00.57. She came just .7 seconds away from breaking her own Bethany record which she set during the 2013-14 campaign. She also notched another top-five finish, crossing the line fourth in the 200 meter dash (27.06).

Other top performances for the women included Megan Butler (Harrisburg, Pa./Commonwealth Connections), Rhianna Petrone (Canonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan) and Jessica Olson (Moon, Pa./Moon). Petrone took 12th in the 5,000 meter run (21:09.06), while Butler came in 14th in the 200 meter dash (29.06). Olson also finished 14th, achieving the place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:46.60.

The Green & White will be back in action on Saturday, January 24 as they travel to Denison, Ohio to competed in the Denison University-Lid Lifter Invitational. The meet is scheduled for an 11 a.m. start.
