March 9 – New York, N.Y. – Bethany track & field standouts Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon) and Paige Prato (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes) traveled to Columbia University to compete in the Columbia Indoor Last Chance Qualifier.
Moore, who competed in the triple jump, had a great meet as he placed second in the event with a distance of 47’ 4.5”. Bettering his distance in each jump, Moore captured his best distance in the final jump of the meet.
The distance was important for Moore, because it gives him what is now, currently the 13th best jump in the country, potentially qualifying him for the NCAA Division-III Indoor Track and Field Championships which will be held on March 14-15 in Lincoln, Neb. The top 15 distances in the country will qualify for next weekend’s event.
Prato also competed well in the meet. Coming off a Presidents’ Athletic Conference championship in the 60 meter, Prato placed fourth in the meet with a time of 8.12. She also showed well in the 200 meter dash, capturing a third-place finish (26.63). Her time in the 200 marked her best showing in that event this season.
The Bison and Moore will have to wait to find out if his distance in the triple jump will hold up and keep him in the top 15 in the country. The final qualifiers for the D-III National Championships will be announced on Monday, March 10.
