Pair of Bison Distance Runners Open Indoor Track Season

2222Donnelly12.jpg Jan. 19 - MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The Bethany College indoor track and field teams sent just two runners to the West Virginia University Invitational Saturday, but both turned in very good performances to begin the season for the Bison program.

The meet did not keep team scores and included schools from every level of competition. They included Division I WVU, Alderson-Broaddus and Pitt-Johnstown from Division II and fellow Division III schools Waynesburg and Hood College from Maryland, as well as Hagerstown Community College and several unattached competitors.

For the men, freshman Ryan Donnelly (right - Pittsburgh, Pa./Penn Hills), who earned Honorable Mention All-PAC in cross country during the fall, took first place in his first indoor collegiate race, winning the 5K. He finished with a time of 16:34.96, defeating competitors from Hagerstown and Alderson-Broaddus.

Also an Honorable Mention All-PAC honoree in cross country, she ran in the 5K as well and finished in second place. She placed behind a runner from Pitt-Johnstown and ahead of a competitor from Hagerstown.

Bethany will be sending a full contingent of runners and field athletes for their next meet, which will be January 26th at the Denison (Ohio) University Invitational.
