April 16 - NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – Two season longs trends continued Saturday for the Bethany College track and field teams at the Westminster Invitational. Battling through tough weather conditions that featured heavy rains and cool temperatures, the Bison continued to post strong times in preparation for the PAC Championships.

The BC men scored 46 points at the meet to place ninth out of 13 teams and the women totaled 25 points for seventh place out of 11 teams. Penn State Behrend took first place among the men’s teams with 171.5 points, while Westminster’s women compiled 132 points to earn first.

Bethany’s men scored most of its points in the sprints on Saturday. A trio of Bison placed in the 100, led by freshman Greg Williams (Washington, D.C./Shippensburg), who finished second with a time of 11.84 seconds. Right behind him was sophomore Raymear Pinchom (Willingboro, N.J.) in third place (11.87) and sophomore Marcus Johnson (Tampa, Fla./Thomas Jefferson), who took eighth (12.14).

Other individual points in the sprints came from freshman Arkangelo James (Pittsburgh, Pa./Baldwin), who was third in the 400 in a time of 51.54, and Pinchom in the 200, as he placed sixth with a time of 23.84. The Bethany 4x100 relay team of sophomore Kendon Noel (Brooklyn, N.Y./Prospect Hts.), Williams, freshman Adiran White (Tampa, Fla./Chamberlain) and freshman Aarick Jones (Wadsworth, Ohio) raced to a second place finish as well (44.98).

In the field events, freshman Ben Gregg (Eighty Four, Pa./Bentworth) placed in the top three for the fourth consecutive week in the javelin, taking second with a throw of 154 feet. Senior Ken Barrows (Wheeling, W.Va./Bishop Donahue) earned third place overall in the high jump by clearing 5-9.

The Bison women also leaned heavily on their sprinters and throwers for points. Senior Desiree Finley (Nanticoke, Pa./Hanover Area) had the top placement, which came in the 100 hurdles when she took second place (17.47). Senior Kelli McAbier (Gnadenhutten, Ohio/Indian Valley) also scored in the 100 hurdles by crossing in 18.51 seconds to place seventh.

A pair of Bison sprinters took fifth in the 100 and 400, respectively. Freshman Paige Prato (Gibsonia, Pa./Pine-Richland) raced to fifth place in the 100 in 13.72 seconds and junior Kaitlyn Black (Pittsburgh, Pa./Chartiers Valley) ran a season-best 1:02.64 to earn fifth. Finley also placed in the 400, securing eighth place (1:03.41).

Bethany’s scoring was completed by the 4x100 relay team of freshman Hayley Acree (Middlebourne, W.Va./Tyler Consolidated), Black, Finley and Prato were third with their time of 52.54.

The Bison have two meets on the schedule this week, beginning Wednesday with the PAC South Quad Meet at Bison Stadium. Then on Saturday, the teams travel to the Baldwin-Wallace Invitational.
