Track Opens Outdoor Season At Shamrock Invitational

March 21 - MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Bethany College track and field program continued their 2013-14 campaign, opening the outdoor portion of their season at the Shamrock Invitational on Friday.

The meet, which was hosted by Coastal Carolina University, featured athletes from Division-III, as well as scholarship athletes from across Division-I and Division-II.

The men's side was led by top-10 performances from Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon), Andre Butler (Poolesville, Md./Poolesville) and Dillon Handy (Alliance, Ohio/Alliance).

Handy had arguably the top performance of the day, finishing sixth in the 400 meter hurdles with a total time 59.04. Handy also competed in the 110 high hurdles, finishing with a time of 18.97.

Coming off a 14th place finish at the D-III Indoor National Championships, Moore captured an eighth place finish out of 20 competitors in the long jump. He finished the day with a jump of 21' 10 3/4". 

Butler notched a ninth-place finish in the 400 meter dash out of a total of 33 competitors. He finished the race with a time of 52.28. Both Butler and Moore also competed in the 100 meter dash. Moore notched a 41st place finish, while Butler finished in 46th out of a field of 65. 

On the women's side, Jess Olson (Moon, Pa./Moon) registered the top finish, placing 14th in the 1,500 meter run with a time of 5:32.15. She also finished 34th in the 800 meter with a time of 2:45.52.

Paige Prato (Gibsonia, Pa./Deer Lakes), Kiera Goolsby (Washington, Pa./Washington) and Lauren Rao (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) all competed in the 100 meter dash. Prato notched a 56th-place finish with a time of 13.03, while Goolsby and Rao finished with times of 13.15 and 13.60, respectively. 

Other competitors for the women included Brooke Bosworth (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) and Rhianna Petrone (Cannonsburg, Pa./Canon-McMillan). Bosworth notched a 20th-place finish in the 3,000 steeplechase (13:01.27), while Petrone finished 27th in the 5,000 meter run (21:51.84).

The Bison will continue their spring break trip in Myrtle Beach as they compete in the third and final day of the Shamrock Invitational hosted by Coastal Carolina University.
