Umar Moore/Kyle Minger Sweep PAC Athlete of the Week Awards

April 20 – GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Presidents’ Athletic Conference has announced that Bethany College men’s track & field standouts, juniors Umar Moore (Coraopolis, Pa./Moon) and Kyle Minger (Richmond, Ohio/Edison Local), have swept the PAC Athlete of the Week awards. Moore earned the Field Athlete of the Week honor, while Minger was given the nod as the Track Athlete of the Week.

For Moore, the junior field athlete posted the best mark of his career in the long jump, while also notching two top-two finishes against competitors from Divisions I, II and III at the Dave Labor Invitational. Moore first competed in the long jump competition, where he walked away with the win in a field of 33 competitors with a distance of 23-10. The mark not only became the third-best leap in the Nation in terms of qualifications for the NCAA National Championships, but it also broke a Bethany school mark that has stood for 89 years.

Along with his record in the long jump, Moore also shattered his own record in the triple jump, finishing second in the event with a distance of 47-00.25. The mark broke his own 2013 mark of 45-11.25.

Minger proved what he can do against tough competition, capturing two top-ten finishes, including a victory in the 400-meter dash at the Dave Labor Invitational on Saturday. Minger’s win in the 400 defeated 26 other competitors in the four-heat event, breaking his own school record with a time of 48.73.

Along with that record, Minger broke Herman Nuckols’ 2006 school mark in the 200-meter dash, placing ninth with a time of 22.05.

Earlier in the week, both Minger and Moore competed in the PAC South Quad. In the event the duo ran two of the legs on the winning 4x100-meter relay. That team also broke a Bethany mark, posting a time of 42.59 to also qualify for the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships.

Individually in the PAC South Quad Meet, Moore raced to a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash (11.03), while Minger tallied a win in the 200 with a time of 22.17.

The Athlete of the Week award was the first of the outdoor season for Minger, while Moore earned his third Field Athlete of the Week honor in a row. The Bison also became just the second school in the conference to earn both honors in the same week.

Minger, Moore and the rest of the Bison will be back in action on Friday and Saturday, April 24 and 25, as they head to Grove City College to compete in the 2015 PAC Outdoor Championships.
