BCVB Keeps Rolling; Sweeps Saint Vincent

Oct. 26 – Latrobe, Pa. – The Bethany College volleyball team swept Saint Vincent College, 3-0, in Presidents’ Athletic Conference action on Saturday in Latrobe. Bethany took the match by winning the three games; 25-23, 25-12, 25-16.

In game one, the Bison were poised to put the Bearcats away, leading 24-18 thanks to a kill by Mackenzie Lauber (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison Mansfield) and two by Lynsie Mandt (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne). However, Saint Vincent would make things interesting, rattling off the next five points to cut the lead to 24-23. Bethany would then take the final point of the game thanks to an attack error by the Bearcats, and take game one, 25-23.

Game two was not as close as the Bison totaled 10 kills while making just three errors in the game. With Bethany holding a 13-9 lead, the Bison would outscore the Bearcats, 12-3 the rest of the way to take the 25-12 victory in game two. Dakota McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) totaled three kills and a block assist in the final stretch to give Bethany the 2-0 lead heading into game three.

In the decisive third set, Saint Vincent jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and maintained the advantage until the Bison were able to come back and tie the game, 10-10 on a service ace by Mandt. Bethany would then go on to outscore Saint Vincent, 15-6, in the final stretch, getting three kills from McKenzie and a kill each from Breana Harris (Severn, Md./Old Mill) and Kelly Becquet (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) to capture game three, 25-16, and the match, 3-0.

McKenzie led the way the whole game for the Bison, totaling 12 kills while making just two errors in 20 attempts (.500). She also notched four block assists in the match. Dylana McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) finished with seven kills while Mandt and Harris finished with six each. Lauber totaled 28 assists while adding three kills of her own.

Defensively, the Bison held Saint Vincent to a -.030 hitting percentage, and totaled 51 assists and 10 blocks in the match. Becquet led all players in the game with 16 digs while Julia Mouch (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) finished with nine. Freshman Alexis Castro (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain) finished the day with five total blocks.

The Bison, who are now 15-0 in PAC play, will be back in action on Tuesday, October 29 as they play host to the Presidents’ of Washington & Jefferson. The contest is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start at the Hummel Field House.
