Bethany Goes on the Road for 3-1 Win at Grove City

Oct. 4 - GROVE CITY, Pa. – Senior Jessica Zavatchen (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) recorded a double-double with 39 assists and 11 kills to lead the Bethany College volleyball team to a 3-1 (25-11, 23-25, 25-15, 25-16) victory at Grove City Thursday night.

The win raised the Bison’s overall record to 18-4 overall and 9-1 in the PAC, while the Wolverines fall to 9-9 and 4-4 in the league.

3189Zavatchen12.jpgThe 11 kills for Zavatchen (right) was a new career-high and the 39 assists were spread out in a balanced attack. Senior Lauren Goodwill (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) posted a team-high 14 kills, while senior Taylor Cassidy (Barboursville, W.Va./Cabell Midland) and sophomore Breana Harris (Severn, Md./Old Mill) posted 10 apiece.

The Bison’s back row defense was very strong in the match. Freshman Julia Mouch (Toledo, Ohio/Southview Sylvania) registered a team-best 21 digs and she was joined in double digits by senior Katie Kurtz (Charleroi, Pa.) with 14 and sophomore Kelly Becquet (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold)with 10.

Bethany will be on the road again Saturday for a non-conference tri-match at Allegheny. The Bison will take on Denison (Ohio) University at 1 p.m. and then face the home team Gators at 3 p.m.
