Bethany Rolls to 3-0 in PAC with Sweep at Waynesburg Tri-Match
Sept. 16 - WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Bethany College volleyball team went to the Waynesburg Tri-Match Saturday and came home with 3-0 wins over the host Yellow Jackets (25-8, 25-20, 25-22) and Chatham (25-7, 25-10, 25-13) to improve to 10-3 overall and 3-0 in the PAC.
The Bison rolled to their seventh straight win over Waynesburg behind 33 assists from junior setter Jessica Zavatchen (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands). A pair of BC hitters totaled double-digit kills, led by senior Lauren Goodwill (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) with 11 and senior Taylor Cassidy (Barboursville, W.Va./Cabell Midland) had 10 to go along with 12 digs.
Freshman Julia Mouch (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview) brought up a team-best 18 digs and the Bison service game was led by sophomores Kelly Becquet (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) and Lynsie Mandt (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) with three aces apiece.
In their second match of the day, Bethany rolled to its fourth consecutive victory this season with the 3-0 decision over Chatham. Zavatchen again set up the offense with 15 assists and freshman Devin Unger (Chillicothe, Ohio/Zane Trace) also sent out 10 assists. Sophomore Jordan Fenner (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North) led the balanced attack with eight kills and Mouch delivered another team-best with 16 digs.
After opening the season with 12 of their first 13 matches on the road, the Bison begin a five-game stretch at home this week. The homestand opens Tuesday with a non-conference match against Franciscan at 7 p.m.
