Sept. 29 - PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Bethany College volleyball team ran its record to 17-1 Thursday night with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 29-27) triumph at Carlow.

Junior setter Jessica Zavatchen (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands), who went over the 3,000 career assist mark in the Bison’s tri-match Saturday, passed out 42 more in Thursday’s victory. Bethany leaned on a trio of veterans up front in the attack, as senior Carrie Talkington (Moundsville, W.Va./John Marshall) put away 11 kills, junior Taylor Cassidy (Barboursville, W.Va./Cabell Midland) posted nine and junior Lauren Goodwill (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) pounded eight kills.

In the back row, senior Tiffany Hoffman (Cambridge, Ohio/John Glenn) brought up 19 digs. The defense was also bolstered by four assisted blocks by Talkington and two solo rejections from Cassidy.

The victory gives the Bison momentum heading into a big PAC tri-match this weekend. On Saturday, Bethany play at defending conference champion Thomas More (9-6, 5-1 PAC) at 11 a.m. Then at 1 p.m., BC will take on current PAC leader Geneva (12-6, 7-0), who remained unbeaten in league play with a 3-0 victory over Saint Vincent Thursday.
