Sept. 3 - STEUBENVILLE, Ohio – The Bethany College volleyball team won their second consecutive match Monday night by sweeping past Franciscan (Ohio) University 3-0 (30-24, 30-23, 30-24), which improved their record to 2-3 on the season.

Senior Lauren Spegal (Bethel Park, Pa.) spearheaded the Bison’s winning effort, as she recorded 13 kills, 13 digs and three aces. Her kills total brings her career number to 954, leaving her 16 away from passing Shae Baxter (969) for third place on Bethany’s all-time list.

Other big hitters for BC in the victory included senior Michelle Fowler (Mather, Pa./Jefferson-Morgan), who had seven kills, and freshman Emily Stewart (Latrobe, Pa./Greater Latrobe), who delivered six.

Junior setter Kim McKay (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) also enjoyed a productive night, as she matched her season-high with 30 assists and also brought up eight digs. Pacing Bethany’s serving efforts was freshman Lindsay Olson (Rices Landing, Pa./Jefferson-Morgan), who matched Spegal by supplying three aces.

The Bison will get a few days to enjoy their two-match winning streak before returning to the court Friday. That’s when they will play in the opening night of the Penn State Behrend Tournament. BC will take on D’Youville (N.Y.) College at 5:30 before battling SUNY-Fredonia (N.Y.) at 7:30 that evening. Then on Saturday, Bethany will play Penn State Behrend at 10 a.m. before closing out the weekend with a 12 p.m. match-up against Medaille (N.Y.) College.
