Sept. 5 - PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Bethany volleyball team swept a pair of teams Saturday on the second day of the LaRoche Tournament to finish in third place, while also raising their record to 3-1 overall.

In their final match of pool play, the Bison cruised past Penn State-Beaver 3-0 (25-9, 25-14, 25-13). Both BC setters in sophomore Megan Hoffman (Cambridge, Ohio/John Glenn) and freshman Jessica Zavatchen (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) passed out 15 assists each in the victory. Sophomore Courtney Meadows (Canton, Ohio/McKinley) was the big hitter with seven kills.

In addition to her setting, Hoffman served four aces, as did freshman Amanda Rodabaugh (Elizabeth, Pa./Elizabeth Forward).

Bethany’s second match of the day was against Butler Community College. While the 3-0 win (25-14, 25-12, 25-11) did award the Bison third place in the tournament, the result and stats from the match will not count for the regular season because BCC is not a four-year institution.

The third place clinching win was highlighted by sophomore Alyssa Schrecengost (Wexford, Pa./Vincentian) totaling nine kills and 12 digs, while Meredith Holl (Mogadore, Ohio) finished with seven kills and three aces. Zavatchen led the passing with 32 assists and sophomore Carrie Talkington (Moundsville, W.Va./John Marshall) turned in four blocks.

The Bison are now slated to return to Hummel Field House for their home opener Wednesday night against Pitt-Greensburg at 7 p.m.
