Nov. 9 - BETHANY, W.Va. – Just days after being named All-PAC, Bethany College senior volleyball player Lauren Spegal (Bethel Park, Pa.) scooped up another honor, as she was named Third Team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

To be eligible, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing at their current institution and be nominated by their sports information director. All Division II, III and NAIA institutions in Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia make up District II.

On the volleyball court, Spegal earned her fourth consecutive Second Team All-PAC accolades earlier in the week. That came after she finished third in the PAC in kills per game with 4.01 (393 for the season) and also led the team with 49 aces and 319 digs.

For her career, she finished as Bethany’s all-time leader in kills with 1,289, as well as seventh in aces with 132 and 10th in digs with 1,013.

In the classroom, Spegal has a GPA above 3.45 as an elementary/special education major. She’s made the Dean’s List twice and the PAC Academic Honor Roll once. Spegal is a member of the Kappa Delta Pi Education Honor Society, as well as SNEA, WVSEA and Phi Mu sorority, where she’s in charge on academic achievement.

“Lauren’s accomplishments on the court and in the classroom are equally impressive,” said Bison head coach Courtney Kline. “She gave an all-around great performance this year for us. Not only was she our main offensive weapon, she also played strong on the defensive end. Lauren had a great finish to her career at Bethany will be very difficult to replace, both on and off the floor.”
