BISON CLINCH TOURNAMENT BERTH WITH WIN AT WAYNESBURG
Oct. 22 - WAYNESBURG, Pa. – By virtue of their 3-1 (26-24, 23-25, 25-12, 25-16) victory Thursday night at Waynesburg, the Bethany volleyball team (13-12, 4-7) clinched a spot in the PAC Tournament, their first berth in the league playoffs since 2004.
Sophomore Alyssa Schrecengost (Wexford, Pa./Vincentian) paced the winning efforts with 14 kills, 12 digs and a pair of aces, while freshman Lauren Goodwill (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) matched her with 14 kills. Sophomore Carrie Talkington (Moundsville, W.Va./John Marshall) had a big night at the net as well, finishing off 10 kills and recording seven blocks, including six solos.
Fueling the BC attackers was freshman setter Jessica Zavatchen (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) with 44 assists, as well as 18 digs. Taking top honors in digs for the night was sophomore Tiffany Hoffman (Cambridge, Ohio/John Glenn) with 20.
While Bethany now knows they will be playing in the six-team PAC Tournament, which begins Tuesday, Nov. 3, they still have three conferences matches left in the regular season to determine seeding, as well as two other non-PAC games. The Bison will travel to Thomas More this weekend for a tri-match, as they take on the Saints Saturday at 3 p.m. before squaring off with Rose-Hulman in a non-conference contest at 5 p.m.
