Sept. 16 - GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Bethany volleyball team won the first set at Grove City Wednesday night, but the Wolverines recovered to take the next three and score a 3-1 win over the Bison in the PAC opener for both schools.

The Bison (7-3, 0-1) scored a 25-16 win to open the match. However, GCC bounced back to squeeze past Bethany in the next three sets by scores of 25-22, 26-24 and 32-30, which also snapped BC’s three-match winning streak.

A trio of Bison hitters finished the night with double digit kills, led by sophomore Courtney Meadows (Canton, Ohio/McKinley) with 13, while sophomore Carrie Talkington (Moundsville, W.Va./John Marshall) and freshman Lauren Goodwill (Canton, Ohio/Jackson) delivered 11 kills each. Talkington also turned in a game-high eight blocks, while the Bethany defensive efforts were also aided by sophomore Tiffany Hoffman (Cambridge, Ohio/John Glenn), who brought up 27 digs.

Freshman setter Jessica Zavatchen (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) had another strong match setting up the offense with a season-best 54 assists.

Bethany’s PAC schedule continues Friday with a match against Thomas More at Hummel Field House at 6 p.m.
