Sept. 9 - BETHANY, W.Va. – With a 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-23) victory over visiting Pitt-Greensburg Wednesday night, the Bethany volleyball team continued their best start in four years, while matching their longest winning streak since that same season.

The Bison now stand at 4-1 for the first time since they opened 2005 with the same mark. Wednesday’s victory was also their third consecutive, matching the longest winning streak since they captured the first three matches of the ’05 campaign.

Bethany used the hot hands of two freshmen to power their way to a first set victory, as Taylor Cassidy (Barboursville, W.Va.) delivered four kills and Meredith Holl (Mogadore, Ohio) drilled three to help put the Green and White ahead.

In the second set, BC used strong serving to pull out the win and move in front by two sets. Freshman Katie Kurtz (Charleroi, Pa.) served up three aces and sophomore Tiffany Hoffman (Cambridge, Ohio/John Glenn), who had 15 digs in the opening set, smacked a pair.

The Bison closed out the match by nipping the Bobcats at the end, as freshman setter Jessica Zavatchen (Uniontown, Pa./Laurel Highlands) passed out nine of her 27 assists and also collected three aces.

For the match, Bethany used a balanced attack, with Cassidy and Holl pacing the hitters with seven kills each. In all, 10 different players recorded putaways for BC. Hoffman was tops on the club defensively with 23 digs and added four aces as well.

The Bison will be back on the floor this weekend at the Penn State Behrend Tournament Friday and Saturday. On the opening day, Bethany will play Penn State Behrend at 3:30 and Lycoming at 5:30. Saturday’s slate sees BC taking on D’Youville in a 10:30 a.m. start and Roberts Wesleyan at 12:30.
