Sept. 17 – GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Bethany College volleyball team (10-4) defeated the Wolverines of Grove City College, 3-0, on Tuesday evening in Grove City. The Bison won in straight sets; 25-15, 25-18, 25-21.
The Bison used a balanced attack to defeat the Wolverines as six different players registered at least four kills. The team totaled 40 kills, led by eight kills by Alexis Castro (Lorain, Ohio/Lorain). Lynsie Mandt (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) and Mackenzie Lauber (Mansfield, Ohio/Madison Mansfield) each notched seven kills while making just one error each. Dylana McKenzie (Hopewell, Ohio/West Muskingum) added six kills while Breana Harris (Severn, Md./Old Mill) and Dakota McKenzie (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) finished with five and four kills respectively.
Defensively, the Bison held Grove City to just a .028 hitting percentage. The team totaled 59 digs led by 14 from Julia Mouch (Toledo, Ohio/Sylvania Southview). Lauber totaled 12 digs to go along with 23 assists for her second double double of the season. Kelly Becquet (Finleyville, Pa./Ringgold) added 11 digs while Haley Santymire (Clifton, Va./Centreville) chipped in with 10 digs on the day.
The shutout of the Wolverines marked the Bison’s eighth consecutive win by the way of the three-game sweep, and Bethany has now won eight of its’ last 10 matches and has swept both of its’ conference opponents this season.
Bethany will be back in action on Saturday, September 21, when it hosts a tri-match against Saint Vincent College and Thiel College. The first match is scheduled for 11 a.m.
