BETHANY, W.Va. – A Bethany College scholar-athlete is designing a new opportunity for the Bethany community to show its inclusivity.

Lynn Burton, a setter on the volleyball team, is creating a diversity and inclusion mask featuring the college’s Bison logo split into two sections. One side, she says, will include the different skin tones and the other will be a rainbow. It will read #ONEBethany underneath.

The Bethany Athletics Department has embraced her idea and will purchase the masks for all of its athletes.

“I was grateful that my school had these same thoughts of diversity and inclusion and was willing to put in all the effort to bring my idea to life,” Burton said. “I hope this mask shows people that even in these unprecedented times our school, with all the different people that come from all over the world, will stand together as one.”

Burton is a freshman from Columbus majoring in psychology.

She is a member of the Black Student Union and throws shotput for the Bethany track and field team.

Sports reporter Victoria Donatelli from WTRF-TV in Wheeling was on campus in Nov. to interview Burton as part of a series on people doing good deeds in the Ohio Valley.
