Feb. 3 - GREENVILLE, Pa. – Sophomore Audra Droginske’s (Wheeling, W.Va./Wheeling Central)  lay-up with 45 seconds to play broke a 51-51 tie and the Bethany College women’s basketball team held on to come away with a 55-52 victory at Thiel Wednesday night.

The Tomcats scored the final three points of the first half to take a 32-29 lead into the break and then tossed in the first bucket of the second half to take a five-point advantage. The Bison (6-14, 3-7) spent the rest of the period trying to catch the home team and finally managed to take a 48-47 lead on two free throws from freshman Taylor Kress (Sharpsville, Pa.) with 2:50 remaining. Thiel (6-13, 2-7) answered back with four consecutive points to go in front by three, but BC drew even again on a trey from junior Tara Harris (Zanesville, Ohio) with under two minutes to go.

After Droginske’s go-ahead bucket with 45 ticks on the clock, Thiel Rianne Thornton made 1-of-2 from the foul line to make it 53-52. Bethany sophomore Anne Wilson (Saegertown, Pa./Cambridge Springs) canned one foul shot and then Harris hit one with three seconds left to make it a three-point game and the Tomcats could not get a potential game-tying three off, as the Green and White won their first road game in 11 attempts this season.

Wilson led all scorers in the game with 18 points and also made three steals, while Kress notched 13 by going 7-for-8 from the foul line and hauled down seven rebounds.

Thiel was paced by Ashley Davis with 14 points.

Bethany will return home for the next two games, beginning Saturday with a 2 p.m. tip-off against Grove City.
