Oct. 28 - BETHANY, W.Va. – The Bethany women’s basketball team was predicted to finish fifth according to the preseason poll released following the 2009-10 Presidents’ Athletic Conference (PAC) Basketball Media Day conference call Wednesday.

Voters in the poll included conference head coaches, sports information directors and members of the media participating in the conference call.

The Bison, who return one starter and five letterwinners from a team that went 15-12 overall and 8-6 in the league last season, scored 95 points to narrowly finish behind Westminster (96.5). Washington & Jefferson earned 14 first place votes and 179 points to edge out three-time defending league champion Thomas More (10 first place nods and 178 points) as the preseason favorite.

After the top two was Grove City (117), Westminster, Bethany, Waynesburg (91), Chatham (59.5) and Thiel (48).

“This is about where I thought we’d be picked,” said sixth-year head coach Rebecca Upton. “To be honest, the poll doesn’t matter a whole lot to us because we’re so young and so different. Our focus is on coming together as a team and being the best team we can be every game.”

Bethany’s season gets underway Monday, Nov, 16 with a road game at Carnegie Mellon University. After a trip to the Mount St. Joseph’s Tournament Nov. 20-21, the Bison begin their home slate by hosting Muskingum Nov. 24 at 6 p.m.
