Dec. 15 - GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Bethany women’s basketball team was denied in their efforts for a third consecutive victory, as Denison used a big first half run to take an 11-point halftime lead and go on to a 61-48 victory over the Bison Tuesday in a non-conference match-up.

Bethany (3-6) controlled the contest through the first 10 minutes. Freshman Kayla Taormina (Center Twp., Pa./Quigley) dropped in six points, as the Green and White cruised out to a 19-10 advantage at the midway point of the stanza. After a three-minute scoreless stretch by both teams, the Big Red jumped back into the game by tearing off 13 consecutive points to start a 23-3 half-closing blitz and take a 33-22 lead into intermission.

After the great start to the game, the Bison went just 1-for-10 from the field during Denison’s spurt and also committed 10 turnovers.

Following halftime, the Big Red kept their momentum built up at the end of the opening half. A 16-6 run, keyed by six points from Haley Dahlgard, pushed Denison to a 55-32 advantage with 10 minutes left. Bethany made one final run, as Taormina tallied seven in a row to start off an 11-0 spurt to get BC within 12, but they could get any closer in suffering the 13-point setback.

A pair of Bison finished in double figures, led by Taormina’s 15 off 7-for-8 shooting in the game. Sophomore Renee Shepherd (New Martinsville, W.Va./Magnolia) chipped in with 12 markers and grabbed six rebounds, as Bethany held a 36-32 advantage on the glass but BC went 0-for-13 from the arc and committed 23 turnovers.

Bethany will play their final game before the holiday break on Friday when they travel to Ohio Wesleyan for a 7 p.m. tip-off.
