Jan. 27 – BETHANY, W. Va. – Posting two more solid performances in helping the Bethany women’s basketball team notch a 1-1 record last week, freshman standout Kelsea Daugherty (Newport, Ohio/Frontier) has been named the Corvias Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III South Regional Rookie of the Week, announced the ECAC on Tuesday.
The award marks the third time this season that Daugherty has earned the distinction of Rookie of the Week as she put together two banner games for the Bison last week. In a victory over Grove City, Daugherty notched a career-high 26 points while tying a career-best in rebounds with 15. The double-double marked her fourth in five games, and the point total was also the highest by a Bison this season.
Daugherty then followed her performance against the Wolverines with another 20-point night, this time scoring 24 points against Saint Vincent College on Saturday. She shot 12-21 from the floor against the Bearcats, en route to her second-consecutive 20-point game of the week. She became the first Bison to score back-to-back 20 point games since Lisa Mitchell accomplished the feat during the 2006-07 season.
On the week, Daugherty averaged 25 points and 10 rebounds while shooting a blistering 59 percent from the field (23-of-39). She now ranks fourth in the PAC in rebounds per game (8.3) and is sixth in points per contest (14.8).
Daugherty and the Bison will be back in action on Wednesday, January 28 when they open a three-game home stand against Geneva College. Tip is scheduled for 6 p.m.
