Feb. 2 – GREENVILLE, Pa. – Bethany College women’s basketball freshman forward, Kelsea Daugherty (Newport, Ohio/Frontier) has been named the Presidents’ Athletic Conference Player of the Week, announced the conference office on Monday. Daugherty earned the distinction by averaging a double-double in two Bison wins last week.
Daugherty continued to impress as the Bison posted back-to-back victories over Geneva (85-61) and Thiel (70-66) to move into fifth place in the PAC regular season standings. In the win over the Golden Tornadoes, Daugherty totaled career highs in both points (27) and rebounds (16) despite playing just 27 minutes.
Daugherty then followed her performance against Geneva with another 27-point outing, this time in a four-point victory over Thiel. The freshman shot 11-of-16 from the field and also added 12 rebounds for her league-leading eighth double-double of the season.
Over the course of the week, Daugherty shot 66.7 percent from the field while averaging 27 points and 14 rebounds. She also ran her scoring streak of 20 or more points to four, consecutive games, the first Bison to accomplish the feat since Jenny Place during the 2005-06 season.
Since being inserted into the starting lineup 14 games ago, Daugherty has posted seven of her double-doubles while averaging 18.3 points per game. During that same time period she has also averaged 9.9 rebounds per game.
Daugherty and the Bison will be back in action on Wednesday, February 4 when they host nationally-ranked Thomas More College. The contest with the Saints is scheduled for a 6 p.m. start.
