Feb. 10 - DANBURRY, Conn. - For the fourth time this season, freshman women's basketball standout, Kelsea Daugherty (Newport, Ohio/Frontier), has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III South Regional Rookie of the Week, announced the ECAC on Tuesday afternoon.
Daugherty averaged 18.5 points and six rebounds for the Bison who went 1-1 in conference play last week. After scoring nine points against #2 Thomas More, Daugherty responded with a career-high 28 points on 11-of-20 shooting from the field in the win over Chatham. She was especially effective in the second half, notching 16 of the team's 33 points in the final stanza against the Cougars.
The freshman forward's 28-point performance marked the fifth time in the last six games that she has scored at least 24 points. It also gave her her eighth 20-point game of the season, which ranks just one behind the conference leaders. Daugherty has also posted eight double-doubles this season, tying her for the most in the PAC.
The award marks the fifth time in the last six weeks that Daugherty has been honored by the ECAC. Four of those times she was named Rookie of the Week. However, after a week of averaging 27 points and 14 rebounds, she earned ECAC Player of the Week honors, two weeks ago.
Daugherty in the Bison will be back in action on Wednesday, February 11, when they open a three-game home stand against Westminster College. The contest is slated for a 6 p.m. tip.
