Nov. 8 – With the 2013-14 NCAA Division III basketball season just around the corner, the Bison women’s basketball team was selected sixth in this year’s Presidents’ Athletic Conference preseason coaches’ poll.
The Bison will look to rebound from a 7-19 season a year ago and are lead by seniors Skylar Williams (Jefferson Hills, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) and Taylor Verrico (Monaca, Pa./Quigley). Verrico is coming off an all-conference honorable mention selection following a junior year where she scored 14.4 points per game in conference play. Williams returns to the floor as the team’s leading distributor, shelling out 80 assists last season.
Mikyla Tipton (Wellsville, Ohio/Wellsville) also returns to the floor for the Bison, after a freshman campaign where she averaged 7.7 points per game in conference play and shot 48% from the field.
The pre-season favorite was Thomas More College who received nine of the ten first-place votes and 99 points, with Washington & Jefferson finishing second with 90 points and one first-place vote.
Bethany will open the regular season on Tuesday, November 19 at Marietta. The Bison’s first home contest is scheduled for Saturday, November 23 against Penn State – Beaver. The home match is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
