Feb. 4 – BETHANY, W. Va. – The Bethany College women’s basketball team dropped just their second decision in their last five tries as the Bison fell 90-52 to the nationally ranked Saints of Thomas More College on Wednesday. The Saints came into the game ranked second in both the D3Hoops.com Top-25 Poll, as well as the USA Today Sports Division III Women’s Basketball Poll.
After trailing 41-21 heading into the halftime break, the Bison played better in the second half, shooting 44 percent from the field, including 50 percent (5-of-10) from long range. Sophomores Hayley Holenka (Shadyside, Ohio/Shadyside) and Lauren Simpson (Washington, Pa./Trinity) notched a pair of triples in the second stanza.
Offensively in the contest, the Green & White were led by Holenka’s 10 points. Kelsea Daugherty (Newport, Ohio/Frontier) saw her consecutive 20-point game streak end at four as she finished with nine tallied in the game. Carly Grady (Keyser, W. Va./Keyser) also totaled nine points in the loss, while Sami Schott (Caldwell, Ohio/Shenandoah) totaled a game-high 11 rebounds.
The Green & White will be back in action on Saturday, February 7, when they travel to Pittsburgh for a contest with Chatham University. The game with the Cougars is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
