Women’s Hoops Falters at Baldwin Wallace

Nov. 22 – BEREA, Ohio – The Bethany College women’s basketball team (3-1) dropped their first contest of the year to Baldwin Wallace, 78-39, on Saturday afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets were in complete control in the first half outscoring the Bison 44-22 to enter intermission with the 22-point advantage.

Bethany’s first-half offense was led by junior Sami Schott (Caldwell, Ohio/Shenandoah), who scored six points, while grabbing four rebounds.

The second half was more of the same, as Bethany was eventually downed by the host Yellow Jackets.

Offensively, the Green & White was led by Schott and sophomore Hayley Holenka (Shadyside, Ohio/Shadyside). Schott scored a season-high 11 points, while Holenka added five points. Freshman Kelsea Daugherty (Newport, Ohio/Frontier) showed off her skills in the paint, corralling a career-high nine rebounds.

At the conclusion of the Invitational, Holenka earned a spot on the All-Tournament team. She averaged 12.5 points between two games, including a career-high 20 points against Mount St. Joseph.

Bethany will continue their non-conference schedule on Tuesday, Nov. 25, as they entertain Marietta College for their home opener. Tipoff for the match is slated for 6:00 p.m.
