Sept.8- MARIETTA, Ohio- Two goals in the first ten minutes of the second half, gave Marietta College (2-2) a 2-1 victory over the Bethany College women’s soccer team (0-5) at the Marietta Invitational held on Sunday afternoon.
Kaitlyn Pearse earned her second win of the season as she recorded four saves on the afternoon.
Junior McKenna Junkin (Charles Town, W.Va./Washington) gave the Bison a 1-0 lead with her first goal of the 2013 season in the 13th minute. She fired a shot into the upper right hand corner of the net which hit the crossbar and went into the goal.
The Bison outshot the Pioneers 8-3 in the opening period and took a one goal lead into the locker room.
Emily Jones tied the game at one for Marietta in the 49th minute with her second goal of the year. She dribbled the ball into the eighteen yard box and shot the ball into the lower left hand corner of the net.
Five minutes later, Mattie Stowell scored her first goal of the season to give Marietta a 2-1 lead. Layne Archer crossed the ball into the box and Stowell tipped it into the net.
Cheyann McQuain (Fairmont, W.Va./East Fairmont) performed well in net for the Bison making five saves, but it was not enough as the Pioneers would go on for the 2-1 victory.
Bethany returns to action on Sat. Sept 11 when they travel to Tiffin, Ohio to face Heidelberg with kickoff set for 2:00 p.m.
