August 26 - GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Bethany College women’s soccer team has been eight in the 2014 President’s Athletic Conference Preseason Poll, announced the conference office on Tuesday. Along with the preseason poll, the PAC Women’s Soccer 60th Anniversary Team was also announced.
Bethany collected 31 points in the preseason poll in 2014, finishing 11 points ahead of ninth-place Thiel College. Thomas More was named the preseason favorite, garnering nine first-place votes and 99 points. Grove City finished second with 88 points (one first-place vote), while Westminster College (70 points) rounded out the top three.
Along with the preseason poll, a total of 60 former women’s soccer players from around the conference were named to the PAC’s 60th Anniversary Team. The Bison, who captured the first four PAC titles in conference history and have five championships overall, placed nine players on the list.
Making the list for the Bison were: Kelsey Barber (1993), Lisa Claus (2004), Wendy Downer (2000), Missy Gibson (2003), Amy Harville (2001), Kelli Marsteller (1992), Missy Miller (1996), Kim Nagy (1993) and Cassie Spalding (2012). A full list of the PAC 60th Anniversary nominees can be found here.
The Bison will kick off the 2014 campaign with a three-game road trip starting at Mount Aloysius on Aug. 30 at 1 p.m. The team will then travel to Muskingum (Sept. 3) and Pitt-Greensburg (Sept. 6) before opening the home portion of their schedule on Wednesday, Sept. 10 against Marietta. The first home contest is scheduled for a 4:30 p.m. start.
