Oct. 2- BETHANY, W.Va.- The Bethany College women’s soccer team fell, 2-1, in its non-conference finale to Mount Aloysius on Wednesday afternoon at Hoag Field.
Freshman Cheyann McQuain (Fairmont, W.Va./East Fairmont) got her eighth straight start in net and was solid in goal for the Bison as she made four saves on the afternoon.
Zara Apakoh picked up her second victory of the season for the Mounties as she recorded seven saves in the game.
Elizabeth Josephson scored the game’s first goal in the fourth minute to give the Mounties a 1-0 lead. Josephson took a free kick from about 25 yards from goal, and put a great shot on net which went over the goalkeeper’s head and into the back of the net.
Kristin James gave the Mounties a 2-0 lead in the 35th minute. James took a pass from Olivia Woodley and James fired a shot on net from the right side of the field which hit the left post and managed to find its way into the net.
One minute later, freshman Julie Slezak (Latrobe, PA/Greater Latrobe) scored her sixth goal of the season to cut the Mt. Aloysius lead to, 2-1. Freshman Brittany Fullbright (Wadsworth, Ohio/Wadsworth) took a free kick and put a great pass into the box to Slezak, who buried it in the net.
The Bison outshot the Mounties 7-4 in the second half but couldn’t manage to get a shot past Apakoh, as Mt. Aloysius would go on for the 2-1 victory.
Bethany returns to action on Saturday afternoon for Senior Day when it hosts 22nd ranked Thomas More in its Presidents’ Athletic Conference opener at 1:00 p.m.
