Bethany College Social Work Department to Host Fall Symposium
The Bethany College Social Work Department is co-sponsoring a two-day professional development symposium scheduled for November 3-4 at the Mountainside Conference Center in Bethany. The symposium theme is “Self-Care for the Helping Professional.”

Bethany College Appoints Theaker Department of Education Chair
Bethany College is pleased to announce that Dr. Sherri Theaker, associate professor of education, has been appointed chair of the Department of Education.

Bethany Dancers to Perform Opening Act for Philly Hip-Hop Ensemble
Bethany College’s “Pretty Girl Sway” will provide the opening act for Illstyle & Peace Productions, a knockout hip-hop dance company, which is coming to Wheeling for a high voltage concert October 26 at the historic Capitol Theatre.

Bethany College Choir and Faculty to Present Fall Concert
Faculty and students in the Department of Visual and Performing Arts at Bethany will present the College’s Annual Fall Concert on October 20 at 7:30 p.m. The performance will be held in Commencement Hall without admission charge, and members of the public are welcome and encouraged to attend.

Bethany College Homecoming 2011: Seeman Crowned Queen, Robinson King
Senior Brittani Seeman of Rumson, N.J., and Matthew Robinson of Wheeling, W.Va., were crowned 2011 Homecoming Queen and King respectively during halftime of Saturday’s football game against Westminster College.

Two two seniors were chosen from 10 members of the Homecoming Court that included: Nancy Hitt, Sara Reass, Francis Rios, Brittani Seeman and Hannah Sweetser for Queen; and Terry Davis, Justin Lipps, Anthony Palus, Matthew Robinson and J.C. Rucker for King.

Seeman, a psychology major, is the daughter of Christine and Joe Seeman. Representing the Phi Mu sorority, Seeman has been active on the Student Athletic Advisory Council and in Women’s Tennis.

Robinson, a visual arts major, is the son of Marilyn Robinson. Representing the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity, he serves as new member educator. Robinson has worked as secretary of the Junior Class Council and has been a member of Circle K and the Student Artist’s Guild.

Available to Bethany College alumni, employees, students, family members and friends, the Bethany plate is a custom-designed, special-issue offering for all Class A motor vehicles currently licensed in West Virginia.

The Bethany College Office of Alumni and Parent Relations is accepting applications NOW for the new plate. We must secure a minimum of 250 applications within the next few months to ensure that the plate is produced.

One Class A vehicle currently registered in West Virginia qualifies for one plate at a cost of $70 per plate. If you have more than one vehicle, order as many as you need!

The School of Education at Bethany College is hosting an accreditation visit by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) on April 15-17, 2012. Interested parties are invited to submit third-party comments to the visiting team. Please note that comments must address substantive matters related to the quality of professional education programs offered, and should specify the party’s relationship to the institution, i.e. graduate, present or former faculty member, employer of graduates.

Alumni Council Elects New Officers
At the recently held Bethany College Alumni Association Board of Directors (commonly known as the Alumni Council) meeting, new officers were elected. John Paul (J.P.) Blaho ’96 was elected to serve as president of the Alumni Association Board of Directors. Blaho has served on the Board of Directors since 2003 and works as the product managing director for Sunguard Availability Services (Boston, Mass.). Bruce Fahey ’77 was elected to serve as vice president.  Elected in 2010, Fahey is an attorney and shareholder with Kastner, Westman & Wilkins, LLC, located in Akron, Ohio. 

Krsitie Bower Barnett ’97, vice president and senior trust officer with WesBanco (Wheeling, W.Va.), will continue to serve as chair of the Engagement Committee, while Craig Williams ’96, director of policy, state government affairs, Amgen, Inc. (Washington, D.C.) will continue to serve as the chair of the Advancement Committee.

Talkington Leads Bison to PAC Win Over Waynesburg
Senior co-captain Carrie Talkington (Moundsville, W.Va./John Marshall) reached a career milestone Thursday night at Hummel Field House as she fueled the Bethany College volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Presidents’ Athletic Conference rival Waynesburg Yellow Jackets (8-12, 2-10 PAC).

Bethany Tennis Claims Fourth Straight Win
Junior Maria Vallone (Rochester, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) and junior Meike Buhler (Moegglingen, Germany/Theodor-Heuss-Gymnasium) teamed for a win at first doubles and then claimed straight-set victories at first and third singles, respectively, to lead the Bethany College women’s tennis team to a 6-2 victory at Chatham Thursday.

Bethany's Spalding Shines to Earn Player of the Week Accolades
After a phenomenal five-goal week, Bethany College senior Cassie Spalding (Claysville, Pa./McGuffey) has been named the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for October 10, earning this distinction for the second time this season.

Bethany Moves to 3-1 in PAC With Win at Geneva
Junior Julie Lindenfelser (South Park, Pa.) scored an unassisted goal just before halftime and the Bethany College women’s soccer team made it stand, as the Bison shut out Geneva 1-0 Wednesday night in a PAC match.

Bethany Falls in OT at PAC Leader Geneva
For the fourth time this season and third consecutive match, the Bethany College men’s soccer team went to overtime, but PAC leader Geneva scored in the 107th minute to claim a 2-1 victory over the Bison Wednesday night.

Bethany Aiming for Return to Winning Ways Saturday Against Thiel
The Bethany College football team will try to end a two-game losing skid Saturday when long-time PAC rival Thiel comes to Bison Stadium for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
