College Mourns Death of Suzi Cummins
The Bethany College community is saddened to learn of the death of Mrs. Suzi Cummins, wife of former College President D. Duane Cummins. Suzi is well-known among the Bethany family for her kind heart and generous spirit — always ready with the encouraging reminder for which she will forever be remembered, “URLVD.”

Suzi made Bethany her home during her husband’s presidency from 1988-2002. An author educated in Christian education at Phillips University, she stayed busily involved in workshops, lectures, retreats, storytelling and, always, in adding her special touch of care and festivity to the lives of those around her. She received the Outstanding Service to Bethany College award in 2001, presented to non-alumni who have made outstanding contributions to the mission, goals and programs of Bethany College through volunteer service or financial support. The Cummins Community Center, a 24-hour fitness facility and security office named in the couple’s honor, serves as a fitting reminder of their concern for the students, faculty and staff on campus.

“There isn’t much I haven’t loved about Bethany,” she said. “I have enjoyed every single moment — good or bad; it goes too quickly.” We hold Dr. Cummins and his entire family near to our hearts during this difficult time and extend our own heartfelt reminder that they, too, are deeply loved.

A memorial service for Suzi Cummins will be held on February 25 at 11 a.m. at Bethany Memorial Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the D. Duane and Suzi Beard Cummins Scholarship at Bethany College.
