Bethany College Announces Fall 2016 President's and Dean's List

Bethany College has announced the President's List and the Dean's List for the fall semester of the 2016-17 school year. Those named to the President's List must have achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average while completing a minimum of 12 graded credit hours. Those named to the Dean's List must have earned a grade point average of 3.65 or better for the semester while completing a minimum of 12 graded credit hours.

Psychology Club Visits Graduate Schools in Pittsburgh

On Saturday, Feb. 4, the Psychology Club accompanied by their advisor, Dr. Diane Snyder, spent the day visiting graduate psychology programs in Pittsburgh. The group toured the University of Pittsburgh campus, explored the Nationality rooms in the Cathedral of Learning and examined the graduate psychology research facilities. The club also toured Carlow University where they had the opportunity to have lunch with the director of the Master's in Counseling program, the director of the Doctoral program in Counseling Psychology and the Dean of the College of Leadership and Change. It was a truly enjoyable and inspiring day!


Ice Skating Event Held for Greek Recruitment

On Tuesday, Jan. 31, an ice skating event was held in Renner Too. Sponsored by the Student Activities Council and the Panhellenic Council, students had the opportunity to ice skate indoors, enter raffles, grab drinks at a hot chocolate bar and take pictures in a photo booth.

 

 

 

 

 

Student Spotlight - Dennis Boyce

During his time at Bethany, senior Dennis Boyce has served as an Academic Tutor for the McCann Learning Center, Treasurer of the Business Club, Treasurer of Student Government, and a member of the Strategic Team for the McCann Student Investment Fund. Although he has been heavily involved outside of the classroom, Boyce stresses that his experience through the different clubs and organizations, as well as his major in finance propelled him to succeed at his semester-long internship with International Business Machines (IBM) in Somers, New York. Faculty Spotlight

Assistant Professor of Economics Organized UnpubMini Event at Bethany

Approximately 30 students, alumni, professors and community members from the greater Ohio Valley region converged at the Bethany College UnpubMini to help board game designers build better games. An UnpbuMini is an event were play testers play prototype board games and provide feedback for game revisions. 

“Board Game Designers combine skills from Mathematics, Psychology, Economics, Communications, English, and Visual Arts to create their games,” said Aaron M. Honsowetz, Assistant Professor of Economics and organizer of the event.  “When students collaborate on how to improve a designer’s board game they get experience using their Liberal Arts education to create something of value.”  

The College and the Department of Physical and Computational Sciences wishes to thank Impression Game Distribution for providing more than $1,000 worth of board games to be handed out as door prizes at the event. The College and the Department of Physical and Computational Sciences also wants to thank the board game designers, some from as far as Columbus, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh, who came to Bethany to playtest their games.

Alumnus Named to Haskin's Laboratories Board

Ernie Teitell, a 1974 Bethany graduate, was elected to the Board of Directors of Haskins Laboratories in New Haven, Connecticut. Teitell is a partner in the Stamford trial law firm of Silver Golub & Teitell LLP.

After receiving his degree in history and political science at Bethany, Teitell went on to receive his law degree from the Loyola University New Orleans School of Law. To read more about Teitell's achievement, click here.

Alumna Honored by Former First Lady at the White House

Kelley Richardson Mills was recognized as one of 50 state school counselors who received attention by the American School Counselor Association for their creative school counseling innovations, programs and leadership skills. Mills, as well as the other counselors, were invited to be recognized by then First Lady Michelle Obama at the White House on Friday, Jan. 6.

Mills was recognized as the Elementary School Counselor of the Year as well as the School Counselor of the Year by her job at Austintown Elementary School in Mahoning County, Ohio. A 2004 graduate of Bethany in Psychology, Mills went on to receive her Master's Degree in School Counseling from the University of the Southwest in 2009. Alumnus Helped Create Commercial for Super Bowl 51

Steve Radick, a 2003 Bethany graduate, worked with 84 Lumber to create a commercial that was featured in Super Bowl 51. Radick is the Vice President and Director of Public Relations and Content Integration at Brunner, an ad agency based in Pittsburgh. To learn more about Radick's work in the commercial, click here.

Women & Leadership - Call to Alumnae

Alumnae are invited to participate in The Third Annual Ann Wilkin Trombadore Women & Leadership Weekend on March 24 and 25. At the event, alumnae will be able to interact and inspire current Bethany students.

Event activities include a Women's Leadership Recognition Dinner with Keynote Speaker Heather Sokolow, Vice President of Production Management for the Discovery Channel, Animal Planet & Science Channel; a panel discussion on teamwork and leadership, and a career fair and networking opportunities. Bethany Alumni Association Now Accepting Nominations for Alumni Awards 

The Bethany College Alumni Association is now accepting nominations for the annual Alumni Awards. Award recipients are selected by the Alumni Council from nominations submitted by alumni and friends of Bethany. Recipients will be honored at a banquet during Alumni Weekend festivities in May.

To view the award categories and to access a nomination form, visit www.bethanywv.edu/alumni/alumni-awards/. All nominations will be kept on the active consideration list for three years.

Bethany Baseball Teams Up With Ohio Valley Basketball Team

The Bethany men's Baseball Team visited the Jefferson County All-Star Basketball Team at the School of Bright Promise in Steubenville, Ohio. The Bethany College men's basketball team cruised to an 83-71 win over league-leading Saint Vincent in a Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) contest Wednesday night.
