Pirates President Frank Coonelly to Speak at Bethany
Frank Coonelly, President of the Pittsburgh Pirates, will be the keynote speaker at the Bethany College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Banquet on April 20, according to Tim Weaver, Director of Sports and Recreation.

Bethany College Announces 2009 Senior Art Exhibit
The Department of Fine and Performing arts at Bethany College has announced the 2009 Senior Art Exhibit. The exhibit, an annual event, will be held March 30 through April 9 in Bethany’s Renner Union Art Gallery. A reception will be held on April 4 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., also in the Renner Union Art Gallery.

Bethany’s Rudari and Carey to Perform in Wheeling
Guitarist Aaron Carey, Adjunct Lecturer in Music, and baritone David Rudari, Assistant Professor of Music, will perform in a recital at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Wheeling on March 23 at noon. The recital will be given in the church sanctuary. Rudari will be accompanied by Robert Troeger, Organist and Choirmaster at St. Matthew’s. Casey Gray, an Organ Scholar and tenor at St. Matthew’s, will be an assisting artist.

Semester at Sea Representative to Visit Bethany March 30
Vincent Schaff, Director/Eastern Region - University Outreach for the Semester at Sea® and the Institute for Shipboard Education, will offer an informational session on the Semester at Sea program.. The event is scheduled for March 30 at 4 p.m. in the library’s Hess Room.

Semester at Sea allows students to study abroad while sailing the globe. The summer 2009 voyage will last 67 days and will encompass eight countries in the Mediterranean, North Africa and the North Atlantic. Students earn between nine and 12 transferable credits from the University of Virginia. Courses taught aboard the ship examine global issues in the comparative context of the nations visited. Learning is further enhanced with off-ship field programs.

Bethany Social Work Honor Society Welcomes New Members, Prepares for March Service Activity
The Bethany College Social Work Honor Society inducted 10 members March 1. To qualify, students must be Social Work majors who are active in Bethany’s Social Awareness Club and have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 and 3.23 within the major after completing at least nine credit hours toward the major.

Bethany’s Nu Epsilon Chapter was formed in 2004 and is part of the national social work honor society, Phi Alpha. The group regularly participates in service activities and will assist Valley Hospice in moving their agency on March 23. Valley Hospice is based in the Upper Ohio Valley and provides care to individuals with life-limiting illnesses.

New members are:
Seniors - Jennifer Naylor, Brittni Doerfer, Lauren Smith, Renee Jones and Megan Areford

Juniors - Amanda Barner, Leila Jahantab (wife of Justin Miller ’08, inducted last year), Alicia Boyer and Justin Miller

‘Troublemaker’ Exhibit Concludes March 12 with Gallery Talk, Reception
Artist Cliff Tresner’s exhibit, “Troublemaker,” ran February 13 through March 12 in Bethany’s Renner Union Art Gallery and concluded Thursday with a Gallery Talk and reception. Tresner is an Associate Professor in the Division of Visual and Performing Arts at the University of Louisiana at Monroe and holds an M.F.A. from the University of Mississippi. The exhibit and reception were presented by the Fine Arts Department and the Student Activities Council.

Catholic Campus Ministry Sponsors Leadership Program at Bethany
As part of a grant-funded initiative between Bethany and West Liberty colleges, Catholic Campus Ministry sponsored a leadership seminar at Bethany on March 10. The event, held from 6-7 p.m. in Renner Too, was open to students, faculty, staff and administrators. It featured nationally known speaker Daniel Caron, who addressed a variety of issues related to leadership, including improving daily interactions with others, reducing stress and increasing energy for important tasks, and developing and enhancing leadership skills.

Bethany Football to Hold 2009 Bison Classic Golf Outing May 2
The Bethany Football Program will host its annual golf outing, the Bison Golf Classic, on Saturday, May 2 at Highland Springs Golf Course in Wellsburg. There will be a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m., and golf will be followed by a social at Bubba's Bison Inn in Bethany. The cost is $85 per golfer and includes 18 holes with a cart, continental breakfast, lunch and the post-outing social. All proceeds will benefit the Bison Football Program. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. Please contact Head Coach Tim Weaver at tweaver@bethanywv.edu if you would like to participate.

Young Bison Aiming to Improve in 2009
A dismal 2008 season which saw Bison Baseball fall far beneath the program’s normal standards is history and a youthful 2009 squad looks earnestly in anticipation to the challenges that lie ahead for the upcoming season.

Bethany Softball Eyeing Possible Repeat
The Bethany softball team brings back six starters from last year’s PAC championship team, as the Bison will be trying to capture their 13th conference championship in school history in 2009.
