Bethany Hosts Summer 2010 Camps
Bethany College has a busy summer schedule with educational, sports, band and retreats planned for most of the summer.
Governor’s Honors Academy
Bethany College will host the 2010 West Virginia Governor’s Honors Academy June 26 – July 18, 2010. On campus for the three-week residential program will be 180 rising high school seniors taking intensive and broad-based classes and participating in a daily seminar session, educational events and interactive activities. This will be the final year of a three-year grant award program funded by the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts for Bethany College.
Bethany College’s Head Men’s Basketball Coach, Andrew Sachs, will continue his summer camp director career by offering three basketball camp dates.

Pro Soccer Camps and DPSoccer Academy are pleased to announce the Bolton Wanderers International Player ID Camp. Bolton Wanderers Football Club, of the English Premiership, will be running the week-long residential and commuter camp open to players age 8-18. This Elite Player ID Camp running July 18-22 will provide Bolton’s International Academy Staff with the opportunity to access the technical, tactical and overall fitness levels of North American players. Education Dept. Offers Summer Autism Course
The Bethany College Department of Education will offer two 600-level courses in autism as part of an intensive, month-long summer program. The two courses, when combined with an existing certification in behavior disorders or multi-categorical special education, will result in an endorsement in autism. Appropriately licensed persons successfully completing the two courses in autism will be recommended for endorsement by their county system. The two courses will be held at the Bethany College Hurl Education Center June 21-July 16. For more information and for an application, click here.

Bethany Announces 2010 Alumni Awards
The Bethany College Alumni Association has announced the recipients of the 2010 Alumni Awards that will be presented during Alumni Weekend, April 30 – May 1, 2010. Those being honored include: George “Ken” Bado ’77, Distinguished Service to Alma Mater Award; Chad Barnett ’96, Alumni Achievement Award; and D. Gail Frankle ’77, Alumni Community Service Award.
Bado, of San Francisco, is the executive vice president of sales and service at Autodesk. His organization is responsible for the worldwide sales of Autodesk’s solutions for customers for customers in the building, manufacturing, infrastructure, media and entertainment industries. Bado’s group also provides support and consulting services that help customers use Autodesk software to realize their ideas and improve their business performance. Since his graduation from Bethany, Bado has given a great amount of this time to his alma mater not only as a speaker to current and prospective students, but as a member of the College’s Board of Trustees.
Barnett, of Wheeling, W.Va., began his tenure as head of The Linsly School on August 1, 2009. Barnett formerly served as Linsly’s director of admissions and was appointed headmaster of Linsly School by the Board of Trustees after a nationwide search. Barnett has received the NAIS Edward E. Ford Fellowship award for Emerging Leaders, is a published scholar with another forthcoming article in the Philosophical Studies in Education, and is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in educational leadership through the University of Pittsburgh, where he serves as a teaching fellow at the School of Education teaching a graduate-level course called Education and Society.
Frankle, of Hummelstown, Pa., is the transplant administrator at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pa., and has spent an extensive amount of time serving her community through the development of numerous programs as they relate to health care, including the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) Program. Frankle also was the recipient of the Summit County YWCA Women of Distinction for community commitment, vision and leadership. She is a doctoral candidate in health care administration at the University of Phoenix.
President Miller Hosts Florida Reception, Picnic Lunch
President Scott D. Miller recently traveled to Florida to support the Bison baseball and softball teams as they kicked off their 2010 seasons. Following the baseball contest versus Earlham College on March 15, Miller hosted a reception for parents, alumni and friends at Cobbs Landing Restaurant in Fort Pierce. He then traveled to Clermont for a picnic lunch at Hancock Park on March 18 with softball parents, alumni and friends.

Attention PSI Beta's - 150th Anniversary Celebration -- Update
The PSI Chapter of the Beta Theta PI Fraternity will be celebrating its 150 year anniversary as a chapter at Bethany College. Events are being planned and will be held on the Bethany College Campus June 18-20, 2010.

There will be golf on Friday, a cookout on Friday night, a full agenda of activities on Saturday (including activities for spouses/significant others) and a dinner on Saturday evening. Bethany Online Alumni Community
The Office of Alumni & Parent Relations recently launched Bethany Live. The Web-based community will allow you to keep up with alumni news, create a profile, post class notes and photos, participate in discussions via the message board and communicate with your classmates in a very similar manner to that of Facebook.
To log in for the first time, visit www.live.bethanywv.edu. Click on
"first-time login" at the top of the page on in the green bar. Enter your name and your constituent ID when prompted and you'll be on your way. The system will walk you through each step to create a profile, upload photos, edit personal information, etc.

Bethany Suffers First Defeat of the Season
Mount St. Vincent scored five runs in each of the first two innings and went on to a 12-2 victory over the Bethany College baseball team Thursday in Ft. Pierce, Fla., the first loss of the year for the Bison (4-1).
Bison Split Games Wednesday in Florida
After dropping a 4-3 decision in eight innings to Plattsburgh State to open the day, the Bethany College softball team rebounded to rout Mount St. Vincent 20-3 in five innings, as the Bison improved to 5-1 on the season.
Bethany's Testa Voted All-Region
Bethany College senior Joe Testa (Amity, Pa./Trinity) continues to pick up postseason awards as he was voted Second Team All-Great Lakes Region by the national web site D3Hoops.com.
Bethany's Lyonett Named PAC Tennis Palyer of the Week
Bethany College senior Jay Lyonett (Weirton, W.Va./Brooke) was chosen as the PAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for March 15 by the conference office.
Bethany Football Program to Hold Bison Golf Classic
The Bethany Football Program will hold its annual Bison Golf Classic on May 1 at Highland Springs Golf Course in Wellsburg, W.Va. The cost for the event is $100 and includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, food and drinks on the course, and a post-outing social at Bubba’s Bison Inn. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. The outing will begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. We hope to see as many football alums as possible at this year’s outing. Proceeds go to benefit the football program.
