President Miller announced
Tuesday the Bethany College main organizational structure for
the 2008-09 academic year. Listed below are the names of the
respective divisions and the senior administrator with responsibility:

The four division heads and Stephanie
L. Kappel, Executive Assistant to the President, serve on the
Students of Bethany College will present
a benefit production of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues,
Tuesday, March 11 and Wednesday, March 12, 2008.
The production, part of the 2008 V-Day
College Campaign and Bethany College’s Women’s Month,
will be held in Commencement Hall, on the Bethany College Campus.
V-Day is a global movement to raise awareness and funds for
local organizations working to end violence against women and
girls. The non-profit is in its tenth anniversary year and has
raised over $50 million, with events being held in over 120
countries. The V-Day College Campaign
invites colleges and universities to join the fight. One of
the goals of the College Campaign is to empower young people
– the leaders, shapers and messengers of the future.
The production will begin at 6:30 p.m.
and donations are requested for admission, $2 per person, with
all proceeds going to the Wheeling YWCA and the national V-Day
Bethany College’s Women’s
Month events provide education and raise awareness on local,
national and global women’s issues. Events planned throughout
the month of March include the Celebrate Women talent show,
a body image program, and a breast self exam educational seminar.
ACA Teaching and Learning
The 6th Annual ACA Teaching
and Learning Institute will be held June 2- 7, 2008 at Brevard
College, Brevard, North Carolina. This interdisciplinary faculty
development program will include sessions on classroom assessment,
critical thinking, and quantitative literacy. Dr. Michael Mihalyo,
Provost and Dean of Faculty and former co-director of the institute,
serves currently as chair of the ACA Deans’ Teaching and
Learning Institute Steering Committee.
Bethany Students Benefit
from Federal Student Aid Programs
263 Bethany College students received $646,396 in Pell Grants
in 2006-07, according to data released recently by the National
Association of Colleges and Universities (NAICU).
The report also revealed that Bethany students received the
following: FSEOG (567, $433,944), FWS (194, $282,869), Perkins
Loans (183, $400,000), FFEL-Subsidized (539, $1921,179), FFEL-Unsubsidized
(342, $1,179,300), FFEL-PLUS (184, $1,702,980).
Data for FSEOG, FWS, and Perkins Loans are for academic year
2007-08 and reported by the U.S. Department of Education in
the Notification of Campus-Based Awards Publications posted
on 3-29-07. Totals are based on allocations and may differ from
actual disbursements. For Perkins Loans, the amounts are authorized
level of expenditures. Data for FFEL and Direct Loans are preliminary
for academic year 2006-07.

Late Basket Gives Bethany 53-50 Victory
Junior forward Susannah Cartland’s
(Harvard, Ill.) three-point play with 5.1 seconds remaining
broke a 50-50 tie, allowing the Bethany College women’s
basketball team to claim a 53-50 victory at Westminster Wednesday
Record Falls as Bethany Finishes PAC Championships
The 2008 PAC Swimming and Diving Championships/Grove
City Invitational came to an end Saturday with the Bethany College
record book taking another hit, as junior Brenda Maxwell (Evans
City, Pa./Seneca Valley) broke the program’s third record
in three days.
Upset on the Road at Westminster
The Bethany College men’s basketball
team (15-9, 9-2) lost a five-point lead in the final 3:45 and
was upset 79-77 at Westminster (7-17, 5-7) Wednesday night in
the next-to-last regular season game for both teams.
